Major Collision Repair Steps

If your vehicle has not been involved in an accident, you can find the process of repairing a car after an accident confusing. Nevertheless, the process will be easier for you if you know the major steps involved.

The Accident

When your vehicle gets involved in an accident, there are things that you should do.

These include:

  • Taking photos of the accident scene before other vehicles are moved while making sure that the road is clear as soon as possible.
  • Ensuring that everybody is okay and calling an ambulance.
  • Exchanging insurance information and contact with the driver of the other vehicle .Also exchange address, name, phone number, as well as insurance policy and name.
  • Contacting the police and getting information from witnesses though the police can do this.
  • Giving an unbiased account of the event to your auto insurance provider.

If your vehicle sustained serious damage from the accident, it might be impossible to drive. In that case, you can have it towed. The auto body repair shop or collision center that you choose can tow the car to save you money and time. Remember that it’s not a must that you drive to the auto shop that your insurance company recommends.

Getting estimates gives you an idea of the amount the repairs are likely to cost. If the repair cost is more than its value, the insurance company may opt to have the car totaled. You shouldn’t take long to get an estimate and you don’t need an appointment to get an estimate.

Once the insurance company has agreed to the estimate given by the auto body shop, you schedule a repair appointment. You may be required to authorize the auto body shop to repair the vehicle by signing a form. Depending on your auto insurance, you may owe the insurance company deductible. The time taken to repair the vehicle will depend on various factors including extent of the damage and how busy the auto body shop is.

If you have been involved in an accident, follow these steps to have your vehicle repaired safely and efficiently.
